Artist Statement:
For this semester-long project I decided to make a video about the goals/dreams being crushed because of the people around us. Throughout my college career after being asked what my major was and what I plan on becoming I have gotten a lot of negative feedback. When people hear I want to become a photographer they laugh and say I won’t make any money or I will not be successful. After recently rediscovering the song “Daisies” by Katy Perry, all I was able to think about while listening to the song was that it would make a great song for a video about telling people’s stories. When I heard the project for this class I thought it would be a great opportunity to show different people’s stories on being told they wouldn’t be successful with their goals or dreams. What I did with this project was I interviewed four people along with myself and asked the question “What is one goal or dream that you have gotten negative feedback on but have decided to do anyway?” I then got photos and videos of the things each person said and put the song “Daisies” in the background to make a montage of these photos and videos. In the editing process I put all of the interviews first along with instrumental music in the background to add to the audio aspect of the interviews. I wanted to give them a light and airy feel. I then put the photos and video of each goal or dream to the Katy Perry song.
