Title: Capturing the Beauty
My theme for this project is quality product photography . I plan on using a variety of different products from the company Rare Beauty. I will continue to photograph the variety of different makeup products Rare Beauty sells as if I am the product photographer for this company. I will solve any technical and/ or conceptual issues with both the light box I have at home and the lighting studio on campus. These will help me solve any issue because they will give me the best lighting. The studio will allow me to have more space than I do at home. I had originally taken product photographs for my final last fall and wanted to expand on what I had learned last year when taking these photos. I would like to make these photographs as sharp as possible as if they were taken by professionals. I am going for sharp, clean and minimalistic with these photographs. One of my concerns for these photos is that it is just the product and it might not be as eye catching. I thought of adding some objects to complement the objects but am unsure what might be too much and things that might take away the simple feel. One object I did think of adding was some other makeup tools like brushes to add to the composition to the pictures.
So far I have used different shades of pink backgrounds with the products because the color pallet for this company is shades of pink. I have also use a clear plexiglass and put the pink paper under it to give the bottom of the photo a simpler feel. I also used tiny mirrors and placed it under the product to give it a reflective feel. I am going to add more solo product shots of different products not just the ones below, but also all of the different products together. As I continue working on this project I hope to get the products even sharper each time. With this artwork I hope to make people interested in the brand and wanting to try out the products.
I got my inspiration to use different products from different brands from Mathew Zucker. Mathew Zucker is a New York City photographer who specializes in still life photography. He takes still life photographs of a variety of different subjects and themes. He uses a variety of different products in lifestyle, cosmetics and fashion in his photographs. He also photographs different food still lives. I really liked his photographs because they were simple, yet have a lot of details that really add to the photographs. I also looked at the Rare Beauty website and instagram to get some more inspiration for my photos. I really liked the simplicity of the websites photos. The website gave me the idea to put all of the products together. I also really liked how they put some of the lipstick on the surface they used underneath the product and is something I hope to do with my photos.
Outcomes:
-The practical outcome of this project is to experiment with different objects from Rare Beauty and use different shades of pink, reflective surfaces and other complementary objects that all work well with eachother.
-Another outcome of these projects is to get photographs as close as what Rare Beauty would use to promote their products.
-I plan on producing photographs that draw the viewer in on the product and persuade them to buy a product or at least look at the store website or visit the store.
-I would like to create very vibrant and colorful photographs that tell a story about the product and the company.
Materials:
Some materials I plan on using is the different brand products, different papers for the background, mirrors, plexiglass and any other objects that will help enhance the photographs.
Schedule:
Week Four: Start gathering all products I want to photograph and further my research by looking at the Rare Beauty website and instagram to get more inspiration.
Week Five: Start photographing some of the products and playing around with lighting and seeing what other objects I could add into the frame to help enhance the photographs. Get them as sharp as possible.
Week Six: Gathering any other materials that I need after photographing for the first time. Start editing what I have to see what ways I could enhance the photographs on photoshop.
Week Seven: Work at home/in studio to see ways I could make images sharper if not already as sharp as I want them.
Week Eight: Edit the photographs.
Week Nine and Ten: Any last minute fixes and edits and retake any photographs that need some more work.
