Making slides in latex
For those computer hackers amongst you making slides in latex is a reasonable option.
-
- MacOS has the ability to cut and paste figures directly in pdf. Just use Preview which has a select tool, and save the graphic as pdf. Then include the graphic into the latex source as required.
- If all else fails, high resolution screen shots are also an option.
- You will also need a way to draw figures. DT uses Xfig and omnigraffle with LaTeXIt for this purpose, but there are other options. JCB recommend tikz (a latex package) and inkscape.
- The “beamer” package was used to make the advice given above. The source files are here
- LyX is a what-you-see-is-what-you-mean type editor for tex, which might make the editing easier. Another option is to use overleaf.com
Power point
It is possible to give good talks in power point. I don’t know how windows users include formulas. On the mac formulas can be constructed with a package called LaTeXIt. Again on the Mac using “Preview” to select images from papers makes for easy talk writing.
Keynote
Keynote is a Mac alternative to power point. It has a devoted following. You again need a program called LaTeXIt
