Title:
“The Leaning of the Tower of Pisa”

Synopsis:

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most famous architectural mistakes in history, yet it is a beloved global landmark. This project will be a step-by-step 3D visualization of how the tower was built, starting from its foundation in 1173 and following through its multiple construction phases. The animation will show the Romanesque design as well.

However, the real twist comes at the end: as the camera zooms out from the completed tower, we will see its unexpected lean take shape, demonstrating the engineering flaw—the soft, unstable soil beneath it. The animation will explain how improper foundation depth and soil caused the tilt, leading to the tower’s infamous tilt.

Target Audience:

  • Architecture and engineering students studying construction techniques, soil mechanics, and historical buildings.
  • History enthusiasts who are interested in medieval architecture and restoration efforts.
  • General audiences who are fascinated by famous landmarks and how they came to be.
