Demographics / Technology Assessment

This Assessment is for providing a detailed understanding of what technologies we are using for the Zuccaire Gallery Virtual Tour tool. The problem that was shared by the Gallery Coordinator was there was a need to plan with staff, curators and guest artists. The ideal solution is to have a sim’s like 3D model of the gallery where you could  virtually showcase the gallery and its exhibits where the items could be placed.

Currently Zuccaire uses Google Drive and a WordPress site to share documents and stay in contact with artist and staff. The EST 339 Team would like to create a prototype that uses a three dimensional model of the gallery at is interactive and available to anyone who has access to that site.

Current Zuccaire Gallery website url

Technologies we will be assessing:

seekbeak.com    (For creating the interactive experience)

blender.org (For creating the 3D Model)

Unity.com    (For developing custom 3D experiences)

Platform Information:

This platform will be used as a tool for the curators to help plan gallery setup.

End User level access:

The end user access will be internal staff so we will not need to worry too much about security.

Hosting and distribution models:

All information will be available on Stony Brook servers.

The technology Blender is a great tool for artists and small teams and is a free open source tool that is available for download at blender.org.  You can rapidly prototype models and with its learning curve you can borrow completed models and modify them to your liking.

Seekbeak.com is a website that allows you to  view an image virtually. It is great for working in groups and viewing a location without actually being there. The tool will be use for this project to help curators plan for there upcoming gallery events.

It is a web based application and is as safe as the users security settings are. This means that it varies from user to user.
