Laurie Frick-Artist Exploring Sleep

Laurie Frick is a data artist who used her device and gathered the information to create visual art pieces to show the viewer how we the viewer/audience will consume the mass of data increasingly captured about us, understanding what inside of us think about by representing them with blocks of colors. 

Laurie Frick was born in 1955, in Los Angeles. She later lived and worked in Austin, Texas. She earned an MBA from the University of Southern California, and a MFA in New York Studio School. She’s now studying at NYU ITP program to assist her Before she turned her career to art, she was an engineer who headed up the emergency market group in consumer products at Compaq in 1966. Later, Laurie Frick changed her career to art, she called herself a data artist. She was inspired by her personal device that is used for sleeping or the brain image. She uses her device to help her see the pattern in the data, she then draws the patterns down through other media.

Laurie Frick had exhibited her work in many exhibitions and galleries such as Mine: Hasan Elahi & Laurie Frick in Transylvania University, Data, Lexington, KY in 2019 and Death and Life of an Object at Edward Cella Art + Architecture,  Los Angeles, CA in 2012. She also went to a lot of public talks, like Talks at Google, Data is Irresistible at Google,  Austin, TX in 2019 and Data is Beautiful at Advertising Age Data Conference, New York, NY in 2015. She also received Outstanding Artist of the Year voted by the Austin Art Critics Table awards and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New York | Swing Space studio award in 2012.
