The artist Noronha photoshoots the series That Place He Goes where she tells the story of an elder who has Alzheimer’s, a disease that is most likely to occur during the elderly that erases memory and causes the elderly to forget things and even who they are, through documentary portraiture of her dad, who had passed away in the last picture in the series.
I felt very in touch with her series especially its documentary of her beloved father. In the interview, Noronha said that her mother’s passing away was a sudden shock to her and her father, and they didn’t have a lot of photos of her mom, so she took a lot of documentary photos of her dad so she could have more of her dad. Her series always reminded me of my first time doing a documentary photo of Chinese immigrants, the first one I contacted was a grandma, and by looking at the photo through the selection, I was reminded of my grandma who’s in China, she is a very traditional woman who never had contacted with technology and didn’t even know how to use it. As a granddaughter, despite I couldn’t find any conversation to talk to, I always wanted to obtain the memory of my grandma since the time was ticking. Noronha’s work inspired me and perhaps strengthened my idea of taking photos of my grandma for being a precious memory of mine and my family.

Lullaby and Last Goodbye was a continuous series conducted by Ciambra which was first started and inspired by her father who took photos of her childhood. Ciambra then learned from her dad and took photoshoots for her daughters. She was at first just taking photos of her daughter, but then it became like a family book as Ciambra referred.
