Final Project: Lost Dream Artist Statement

Artist Statement

In this final project, I was inspired by Carole Mills Noronha’s project: That Place He Goes. In Noronha’s project, her dad was the main subject. The reason why Noronha started shooting her dad and putting him into her work is because of the sudden passing away mother. Noronha mentioned that her mom’s death was very sudden, “No time to say goodbye. It completely floored me. All that remained were her things and memories. I wish I had more of her. More photos, more time.”(Noronha). Her desired thought pushes her to photoshoot her dad to obtain some memory. Her work inspired me to do a memory shot of my passed-away grandfather.

When thinking of this topic, there are rarely any items or props that can show my grandfather. Then I recalled the only, and the last thing that belonged to him was the DVD. Despite the DVD being the only thing now that obtained everything about him, it seems gone. Everything about my grandfather had vanished. I want to express the feeling that I want to look through every DVD to find a piece of memory about my grandfather through my first two photos, then it correlated with the dream he walked down the street with me, holding hands. It is the most memorable memory I’ve dreamt of him coming into my dream as it’s the last time we held hands together.
