Project 2: DIFFERENT NOT LESS

What Do I Look Like?

Digital Animation on Prosopagnosia

Artist Statement

“What Do I Look Like?” is an animation showing a perspective from a patient with prosopagnosia, in other words, prosopagnosia is face blindness. The patient can’t recognize an individual’s face from another. To prosopagnosia patients, everyone looks the same.  Throughout the research on prosopagnosia symptoms, I realized that prosopagnosia patients could even be unable to recognize themselves, one example is Carlotta, a prosopagnosia artist who always draws her self-portrait.

Reference

One artist reference I researched is Carlotta, an artist whose works are all her self-portraits. Unlike others’ self-portraits, Carlotta’s self-portraits are abstract and don’t look like a human. The main reason is that she had prosopagnosia. She always try to recognize herself throughout the process of drawing her self-portraits.
