“SHE”
SHE: College Student in the Cafe
As a friend of mine, she was a Chinese descendant born in Columbia and migrated to America. She received and accepted the better education and lifestyles combined with technology in America from her childhood until now.
“While receiving a fairly good education, I found out there’s always something that women cannot do. We can probably target what we can’t do and try to make a change with what we can do.”
SHE: Managers of the Restaurant
Before she became the manager, she was a wife and a mother who stayed at home. After she migrated to America, she found the work that she could do.
“Rather than staying home and depending on my husband, I would like to step out and earn money myself although the job is indeed tiring.”
SHE: Waiter in a Restaurant
While taking and viewing her photos, I asked her if had she thought about other things to do.
“What else I can do besides working here?”
she asked.
“But at least I got a job, better than having nothing.”

SHE: Chief in Kitchen
I constantly peek through the kitchen to see the granny and see her moving as fast as she can to prepare dishes, especially during busy hours. In the last hour before she ended her night, I asked her what did she feel about her current work.
“Though I’m old now, I’m still sort of glad I can find work and earn money for myself.”
SHE: Grandma in Home
I went to one of Jing Jiang’s workers’ living places to take photos of the grandma during the break. It seemed like the granny was very interested in what I was doing with her portrait, especially after I showed her some of the photos I had taken for her.
