Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that affects the way a person thinks, acts, expresses emotions, perceives reality, and relates to others. People with schizophrenia often have trouble doing well in society, at work, at school, and in relationships. They might feel frightened and withdrawn, and seem to lose touch with reality. They may experience psychotic symptoms including delusions (having false beliefs) and hallucinations (hearing voices). Schizophrenia is commonly misunderstood as being a form of split or multiple personality disorder.
