When I first started this course, I honestly wasn’t excited at all. I was only taking the course because it was required and I just wanted to get it over with. I used to love writing when I was younger, but high school ruined that for me since we were forced into writing about topics we didn’t care about. I thought it would have been the same for this class, but I was glad to find out that we were allowed to choose our own topics. I really wanted to write about the things I thought were really important since they were things that interested me and I knew I would be able to provide an angle that others might find interesting as well. Not only did I want to make sure my papers in this class were convincing and interesting enough, but I really hoped to become more vocal and break out of my shell since I was never the type to ever participate in class discussions. I think I was able to participate a decent amount, but not enough, but I’m glad that I tried because I do think that it got a bit easier for me now. One of the hardest things that I learned in this course is how to find and quote credible sources. Finding sources was always difficult to me, but the argument paper especially, forced me to think outside the box to find secondary sources I could include in a paper that is rather personal. I enjoyed every assignment because I was able to stay interested in my own topic by the end of the paper, especially the rhetorical analysis paper. The only thing I wish we did more of are readings like we did once and we had to write a reflection on it. I thought it was interesting and fun to read short stories because I realized that the theme isn’t always easy to understand and that there are multiple ways of comprehending the same piece of writing.
