Ryanne is currently in the biomedical engineering graduate program at Stony Brook University pursuing her Master’s. Her primary research interests lie in mechanical engineering and her hopes are to apply biomechanics to develop equipment and devices that will improve fracture healing and decrease fracture susceptibility in children. Ryanne started her journey into bone mechanics and fracture susceptibility as a senior at Marlborough School in Los Angeles during a research project in conjunction with Dr. Tishya Wren in the Gait Lab and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. While still interested in biomechanics, Ryanne was primarily interested in the mechanical aspect and decided to pursue her interest at Carleton College with a degree in Physics. While at Carleton, Ryanne continued her interest in bones and did her senior thesis about the physics of bones, analyzing the radiology, mechanics, and stimulation of bones. After graduating, Ryanne took a detour into finance and worked at Wells Capital Management doing portfolio risk analysis. Her heart wasn’t in it, though, and she decided to return to school to pursue her interest in fractures, prevention, and healing through a master’s degree in biomedical engineering at Stony Brook.
However, Ryanne’s primary career interests are in teaching STEM at the high school level. She wants to share her love of physics and engineering with young students and help them develop the skills necessary to succeed in college and beyond. Ryanne’s teaching philosophy centers around enabling students to help themselves which includes establishing a sense of responsibility, instilling confidence, and teaching problem-solving skills and critical thinking that will allow her students to seek out knowledge and information. Ryanne is passionate about teaching and has pursued various opportunities to volunteer and work in teaching, coaching, and tutoring throughout her career.
Outside of physics and biomechanics, Ryanne is interested in a variety of activities. She is part of the Women’s Club Soccer Team and loves getting involved in technical theater, especially lighting design.
