For my final I did an image series based on the idea of being hidden within plain site. The idea came to me when viewing Simen Johan’s photos on bird and seeing one blending into it’s surroundings with camouflage. Building off this idea I saw Art Wolfe who further showed off animals blending into their surrounding and more notably Lui Boline who painted himself to blend into his surroundings. Initially I thought this would be a lot more achievable and would be able to get a photo within a photo in an arranged space to make the illusion possible. Then I realized how much I overestimated how difficult this would be and toned down what I could potentially do as trying to find both blending textures and colors within two different subjects proved to be a challenge. So instead I opted out from camouflaged within a subject’s surrounding to making a subject appear hidden within plain site. I went towards this path as my main theme because I feel like everybody has been in the scenario where they’re attempting to find something and it’s been right under their nose the whole time. So all I really did was use a light source that was already present (sunlight and fllorescent lighting) and arranged the pieces to be as interesting as they could be and do slight touch ups in photoshop afterwards but nothing too extreme as I wanted the image to be seen as if done through a natural eye. The flower was the easiest to achieve as it was simply a matter of doing a top down view on it. I went with a couple of different shot for the apples but I feel like the one I’m presenting here does a better job of standing out without taking center stage like in my other shots where it was more obviously among them.Lastly, the photo with the silverware was done with other object but I found the nail clippers to have the most similar silver to match actual tableware. I wanted to do more images for this final but a lot of my other ideas were poorly done like a wooden turner spatula on a hardwood floor, a green sponge besides a cactus and I felt they weren’t well developed enough to be used. So I opted out these 3 as my strongest pieces as their presence had the most impact out of the photos I shot.

Final Project Proposal
For my final project I had a struggle attempting to figure out what I wanted to do. When I was looking at Simen Johan’s work with animals I wished to take pictures of birds but since they’ve been leaving for the season I decided to alter my view on one particular photo they took. Seeing one of their photos of birds camouflage themselves with a tree had me thinking of taking photos within the same vein as that approach. After viewing the works of Lui Boline and Art Wolfe I got my ideas on what to do in order to execute my idea. Integrating ordinary objects blending into the background of the photo in a way that subtle at first but then becomes more apparent when looked into up close. Lui used painting himself to blend with a background, while Art Wolfe utilized taking pictures at the right moment and angle to make full use of the blending in effect. Most of my past photography assignment were done spontaneously but I really wanted to work with a more arranged and fixed scenes for my final project. Unlike Lui Boline I don’t intend to paint any part of myself to achieve the blended in look but more so using objects natural colors. I have no concrete numbers on the amount of photos I wish to push out but it will be anywhere from between 6-8 photos. They’ll also be web based so they’ll range from 600 x 800 px to 1000 x 1200 px.

Midterm Project
In the future, in order to compensate for an increase in human population mankind will need to reach beyond the Earth to find new settlement. Humanity shall construct artificial landscapes orbiting Earth known as Space Colonies as their answer to overpopulation of the earth. These colonies will be places in an orbit and be made with artificial landscapes, contain housing and have an artificial gravity through a rotational axis. With this plan in mind comes the additions of people from space having their own form of recognition, a co-dependency between the people from Earth and the colonies, and an advancement in interstellar travel.
Life in the colonies themselves would reflect that of Earth though with differences that differentiate the two. The colonies themselves would feature large panels that would open and close along the sides to indicate day and night as their orbit wouldn’t always coincide with the Earth’s day and night cycles. Transport ships would make periodic trip to the colonies to ensure they’re well supplies as weather is a phenomenon that wouldn’t occur within the artificial space. Though political tensions could arise and colonies could be damaged by various means, that doesn’t make the scenario of space colonization an impossibility, but one that would take hundreds of years to attain.
