Education

Ward Melville High School

I attended Ward Melville High School from 2010 to 2013. It was a reasonably large high school – as I was in a graduating class of about six hundred – and it kept most of the student body very busy to keep up its academic and extracurricular reputation. If you sought to challenge yourself academically, like I did, the school would provide amply for that request. In fact, I learned about the stressful consequences of holding yourself to a higher standard as much as I learned from my classes. Here are some of the honors/AP courses I during high school:

  • Honors biology
  • AP World History
  • AP U.S. History
  • AP U.S. Government
  • AP Language
  • AP Literature
  • AP Psychology

Additionally, here are some extracurricular activities I took in high school, as well as some accolades:

  • Jazz band II, where I played guitar
  • Varsity football, where I hardly played at all but still contributed what I had to the team
  • Tri-M music honor society
  • National honor society

Stony Brook University

I enrolled as a freshman at Stony Brook University in the fall 2013 semester. The choice was partially based on convenience as it’s a 10 minute drive from home to campus; it was also the academic challenge and scholarly rigor of the school that drove me to this school where I hoped I would succeed. In my years as a biology major and then a health science major, those academic challenges proved to be great obstacles, and they’ve often come close to thwarting my hopes for a successful future. Nonetheless, one way or another, I’ve managed to clear these hurdles so far, and I refuse to give up now just because of future challenges. My graduation has already been delayed for two years behind my original intention, but no longer: I’m set to graduate in May 2019, and nothing’s stopping me from reaching that goal.

Here are some relevant classes I have taken for my health science major…

  • Human anatomy and physiology
  • Research methods in health science

…for my biology minor…

  • Organisms to ecosystems
  • Molecular and cellular biology
  • Cellular and organ physiology
  • Introductory biology labs
  • Biology and human social and sexual behavior
  • Evolutionary medicine

…and for my writing minor.

  • Introductory writing
  • Grammar and style for writers
  • The personal essay
  • Writing for your career
  • Writing for the health professions
