a. Vice President of Watsi- Watsi has been a life-changing experience for me. Watsi is a medical fundraising club in which we fund medical treatments online for patients in developing countries. As Vice President, I am responsible for all promotion of the club, including making flyers, using social media to advertise and spread the word, and collaborating with other clubs and businesses. Revitalizing the Facebook page, I update it weekly with our events and photos. Collaboration is also a major part of my role on the club. I have to talk to other companies (the Halal Guys, Chatime Bubble Tea, Krispy Kreme, Applebees, etc.) about holding fundraisers for us and conduct high volume business with them. Recently, we made a $600 profit from our bubble tea fundraiser, so we can fund the surgeries of about 5-6 patients.
Also, after speaking with the main Watsi headquarters in San Francisco, we received our own page under the national Watsi website in which anyone can assess our progress and view all the patients we have funded.
b. Head Undergraduate Teacher’s Assistant for BIO 202: Fundamentals of Molecular and Cell Biology– Mentoring a group of 50 kids, I would have to comment on their homework blog posts weekly and clarify content that was not clear from the lecture. I was also responsible for monitoring the prowess of the other teaching assistants on the discussion boards. I also organized the first-ever final review session for BIO 202 where my TAs and I presented and taught in front of sixty students.
