The Beginning

11” x 11”

Acrylic of Canvas

Photography has existed for over two centuries. Inspired by my interest and development in camera technology, The Beginning, captures photography and its printed results through painting during the 1800s. I combined my interest in photography, the camera’s history and the city I grew up in, New York City. Although the location is of New York City, the painting represents what the city may have looked like in the past, rather than what it actually looked like. Using black and white acrylic, The Beginning alludes to the beginning of successful film photography of black and white prints, yet the contents of the photograph showcases the camera’s underdeveloped ability to capture clear pictures.
