Murder Clown

10” x 20”

Oil on Canvas

The work presented is meant to be a reflection on how an individual can be consumed by the world around them. More specifically how a person can become a direct product of their environment. Our surroundings are a sort of stamp on who we are and how we choose to lead our lives. Whether it be where we live, who we were brought up by, or the connections we form with others. The unfortunate repercussions of actually becoming the violence around you is what I am attempting in this piece. The greatest sin one can commit is taking another life. In this moment, the character seems to be completely engulfed in his act of murder, becoming more detached from his own morality. I wished to express this by having Arthur’s cold indifferent aura to be a reflection of his act of murder and the almost indifferent space around him. In this case, an empty subway terminal devoid of life and surrounded by darkness.
