Reminder of Requirements
- Omicron Alpha operates under a point system. Each activity/event counts as 1 point. To remain a pledge/member in good standing, students must earn the required number of points (percentage) each semester enrolled in the university. Failure to do so will result in discharge from the organization or probation.
- Pledges must attend 80% of our professional and reaching out points and volunteer for 3 community service events.
- Undergraduate Members must attend 60% of our professional and reaching out points and volunteer for 2 community service events.
- Graduate Members must attend 40% of our professional and reaching out points and volunteer for 2 community service events.
- Points and attendance for all meetings can be tracked here.
- Pledges: All pledges must submit their $75 application fee before Friday (9/27)
- Members: Members are expected to submit their annual dues ($20) before Friday (9/27)

Pledge Requirements
- Undergraduate Students: Matriculated undergraduate students with an interest or formal declaration in accounting or finance. This could include just an interest or the formal declaration of a minor in accounting, a specialization in accounting, or finance.
- Graduate Students: Matriculated graduate students in the MS in accounting, MS in finance, MBA in accounting, or MBA in finance programs.
- 3.0 minimum grade point average in all program courses and 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average.
- Payment of a one-time non-refundable candidate fee ($75) as required by the national office of Beta Alpha Psi.
- Completion of professional, service, and reaching out activities each semester to earn the required points as dictated by the chapter.
- Subscription to the Code of Ethics of Beta Alpha Psi
Membership Requirements
- Successfully completion of at least 6 weeks as a Pledge.
- Completion of at least one and a half years of collegiate courses with enrollment or completion of at least one course in finance or accounting beyond the principles/introductory level. For transfer students, the most recent qualifying course must be at the initiating institution or another AACSB or EQUIS accredited institution.
- 3.0 minimum grade point average in all program courses and 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average.
- Completion of professional, service, and reaching out activities each semester to earn the required points as dictated by the chapter.
- Payment of a $20 annual fee to cover the attendance at social and recruiting functions.
- Subscription to the Code of Ethics of Beta Alpha Psi
Point System
The Stony Brook University chapter of Beta Alpha Psi will operate under a point system. Each activity/event counts as 1 point. To remain a candidate in good standing, students must earn the required number of points each semester they are active in the organization. Failure to do so will result in discharge from the organization.
As a reminder, all BAP candidates and pledges must earn community service points to remain in good standing.
1,. Community Service: This is a reminder that September is Hunger Action Month, and you have just one week left to earn your 1 community service point! To participate, please donate 3 non-perishable food items by September 30. The collection box is located outside Harriman Hall Room 109. Don’t forget to use the QR code to log your donation for 1 of your 3 required community service credits.
2. Reaching Out Activities: There are a few opportunities to earn reaching out points. High School Visits . If you are interested in attending a high school accounting class to speak with them about your education journey. Each visit is limited to 2 students. Sign up by 10/4. Each visit is worth 2 points toward your combined professional and reaching out points.
3. IMA Student Membership applications are now open! First preference is given to Beta Alpha Psi students, and the first 10 applicants can join for free. Stony Brook University is one of three schools on Long Island that proudly holds an IMA Student Chapter (IMASC). This means that SBU students gain front-row access to IMA events.
