Projects
Positive Affect and Loss of Sleep (PALS)
In a research study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), we are looking for friend dyads between the ages of 10-12 to participate together. Kids will be asked to track their sleep at home, sleep overnight in our sleep lab with a friend, and play some games on a computer.
Families who participate will receive up to $650. Kids will also play several games where they can win a small prize. Families will also be provided with compensation to cover gas/mileage for travel to our lab.

Rewards, Social Interactions, and Sleep in Early Adolescence (RISE)
In a research study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), we are looking for children between the ages of 8-12 years to participate in a study on their sleep and daytime experiences. Kids will be asked to track their sleep and social experiences at home, complete several short surveys each day, and play several computer games. Families who participate will receive up to $375. Kids can also win a small prize.

Sleep and Adjustment in Foster Environments (SAFE)
At young ages, healthy sleep is dependent upon feelings of safety, secure attachment to a caregiver, and a stable home environment; all of which are attenuated among children placed in foster care. Sleep disturbances are among the most common consequences of maltreatment and trauma and occur at high rates in this vulnerable group of children. Through research grants from NIMH, we are developing and testing a trauma-informed behavioral sleep intervention for children in foster care.

Sleep, Circadian Rhythms, and Electronics Use in the Evening Study (SCREENS)
Children’s screen use has increased dramatically in recent years and may have impacts on children’s sleep and daytime functioning. In collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine, this 5-year NICHD-funded study is systematically testing the impact of screen light exposure and different media content on children’s (8 to 11 years) sleep, executive functioning, and emotions. Recruitment is currently taking place in Houston, Texas.
