PROJECT TITLE: Flow

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Sometimes the paint falling into the water takes a strange shape depending on its flow. The paint looks like smoke, steam, clouds, and mist, and its flow is very beautiful in color and light. It is a pattern of flow, not a pattern made of human control, so it is a self-contained aesthetic. I want to capture the movement of the flow and reconstruct its aesthetics.

OUTCOMES:

It is the image of the moment when the paint is released on the black background. It will be about 6-8 pieces using different color gel and different color paints.

METHODS AND MATERIALS:

I will fill the vial with water and drop the watercolor in it. Using color gels and lighting properly, I will try to make the appearance of the paint spread out in the water as clearly as possible. I will also use microlenses to capture the details of the water flow. It will be a great help in understanding the pattern and shape of the flow.

Project1: Lighting

Project Description:

I do not have many moments to capture smoke in our daily lives. It can not be held by hand, and when you try to chase it with eyes, it disappears immediately. What would it look like to take a photograph of smoke? Does it have particles like water? These scientific questions led me to take pictures of smoke with light.

Role of Light:

In order to capture the moment of smoke well, it is important how and where to direct light. I used a single light to shoot light alternately from the right, left, and back of smoke.

This was my first attempt to shoot smoke using light, so in fact, I think it is not a clear result. But at this process, I learned the sense of how smoke is photographed, and I was able to figure out how to make it more successful.

These photos with the light from the left were more successful. I was able to feel the light in the smoke. The left side looks brighter and the right side gets darker. Also, I could see small and beautiful particles of water.

Finally, I think the best lighting that can capture smoke is the backlight. The lights from the back helped to make the smoke visible overall. Also, the small and fine particles produced by smoke were well visible. Every time smoke emerges, it creates a different shape, which is also seen differently by light.

Taking photos of smoke was more exciting than I expected. It was impressive that the shape of smoke was different depending on the light, and it was also fun to see that many particles were splashed in every direction.

Research Journal: Low Key Image

I recently studied the High/Low key image. In particular, low-key images seemed to be very attractive. I practiced using a low-key image on task 2, but the low-key image I found on the screen was quite impressive.

The low-key image with a full black background makes the subject look clearer and clearer. In particular, the light-colored subject becomes conspicuous, and that’s why the picture of the swan is beautiful. If I have a chance, I would like to have a low-key image of a subject with bright and colorful colors, such as flowers and fruit.
