Valentine’s Day Ohmy!

Happy Valentine’s Day! or as I like to say, Single Awareness Day!

The snow has been hitting us hard lately, how are you taking it?

Today we had guest presenters Chris and Tara. We talked about presenting information, mostly for our resumes and cover letters, in a profession, but appealing way. We looked at examples of good and bad lecture notes provided by professors and analyzed why either was good or bad. We saw that indenting, bolding, and bullet pointing all helped with receiving information, and how it is better to send things in a pdf file so the format wouldn’t get messed up.

After learning about some ways to create a more appealing document, we split into pairs and worked on a given set of information. Afterwards we presented it to the class and described how we went about editing and why we chose to do certain things. Although there were some conflict of interests (Sorry Victoria!), we saw how everyone has different views of what may be more aesthetically appealing and what things can be changed to please a larger audience.

In the end, I learned how to use more components of Word that I never really explored. I hope that the information I learned today, as well as the information I will learn from the resume workshop, will help me develop a better resume and cover letter that will serve me well in the future!

This week is also the first week of shadowing. This week we mainly went over the basics of what to expect as a senior consultant. Michelle taught me server room policies and did a brief run through of what’s it like to be behind the front desk and what different jobs we will have to do in the future. Danny went over differences between Help Desk and Site managers and how they handle different responsibilities and jobs. Michelle also started helping me memorize staff members and their different jobs. Through shadowing Michelle and Danny, I got a sense of what it was like to be a site manager. Later that week, I shadowed Eddie for Help Desk, and I learned the basic things; such as velaro chat, help desk responsibilities, how to answer phones calls, etc.
