For this assignment, we had to chose one theme and then shoot anywhere between 6-20 photos in both color and black and white on the camera. I chose to go with trees and plants as my theme since it’s fall and I thought that the leaves would look pretty because they are changing. However, the trees I saw were either still pretty green or they had lost too much leaves, so… my pictures have a lot of really green, non-autumn looking plants and trees.
Because of the nature of this assignment, I tried to take pictures of similar items in black and white and in color.
For these last three pairs of photos, I didn’t take a comparative shot in the opposite format, but rather I just took these photos because there was something in each I particularly liked.
For the photo on the left, I really liked how the little red fruit stood against the leaves and I think it created a nice contrast. Even though the fruit is kind of small, your eyes are drawn to it because of the color of it compared to the leaves. For the picture on the right, I thought that the frontmost tree looked like it had a face and wanted to capture that.
In this pair, the colored photo reminded me of those trees that you see all alone surrounded by nothing but grass. While I doesn’t quite look the same or create the same feeling, I still like this photo. For the black and white photo, I really liked how the shadows of the leaves looked on the trunk.
For this last pair, I really liked how the sun was shining through the gap between the tree trunks and I really liked how the plants are all angled to the side because of the breeze.
