Hello and Welcome! My name is Shiffoni Sukhlal, and I’m an international student from a small English-speaking country in South America – Guyana. Here I witnessed exciting innovations and development that has since sparked my journey in becoming a scientist. I’ve seen local farmers concoct watering devices to keep their fruits and vegetables fresh as they go through the villages on horse-drawn carts, and fishers optimize their catching methods by allowing their nets to self-tie with weights by the nearby sluice. I’ve also seen my father, an artist, create toys from washed-up items at the seashore. It has always been a marvel to watch these individuals, who didn’t have much, build-out of seemingly anywhere and optimize techniques and technologies to serve us as a community. These individuals were making an impactful positive difference. Scientific research has allowed me to explore my curiosity and compassion to make my difference in this world by addressing clinical challenges. I hope to innovate clinical advances in medicine while also successfully translating these advancements toward the health care field in a safe and ethical manner. Like my local farmers and fishers, I hope to create, and make a difference in this world. Here you will find my research experience thus far, my hobbies and my bits of my journey to becoming a Scientist.

Interests

My interests lie in Precision Medicine: single-cell analysis, and proteomics – cytokines, drawing experiences from nanobiotechnology, drug and gene delivery, and genetic engineering while ensuring the ethical and responsible translation of novel technologies to industry and better understand product innovations and market needs.
