The Golden Cage, 2020, 30×40, Oil on Wood panel with collage elements

My work is centered around my immediate life and the small circle of people in it. This 2020 year has been very different than any other year. I feel we can all relate to our world growing smaller and our internal lives growing larger as the result of social isolation, distance learning, and an overwhelming amount of instability.
Each piece in this series relates to an emotional, psychological state experienced by me or a loved one during this time. Feelings of entrapment versus security, concern versus lightheartedness, what is real or what is misinformation, needing time alone versus isolation and loneliness, feeling divided and needing to do more with time versus being suspended or stagnant.
The Golden Cage speaks to the idea of personal freedom versus security and the delicate line of nurturing a child that every mother faces when there is a threat of danger.
