The Garden, 2020, 30 x 40 Inches, Acrylic on Canvas
When I was a kid, I always loved the world of cartoons and anime. One world that I always wanted to live in Is the world of Hayao Miyazaki and his creation of Studio Ghibli movies. My concept for this project was to create a living world like the one of Studio Ghibli, but instead I created scenes that I have witnessed and are important to me. I picked 4 scenes from my life from significant places in NYC that I want to focus on. Using those as references I painted them in a somewhat cartoon, Hayao Miyazaki inspired way that resembled the movies from my childhood. This incorporated the adventures of his world that I always wanted to live in and the adventures that I have experienced.
Through this work, I hope to bring some happiness into the viewers life and make them remember their childhood. What shows did they watch as a child? How did it affect your childhood? What are some of your special places you went to as a child and what is your view of them now? That is what I want the viewers to think about when they look at the piece.
