People find comfort in the things that are familiar to them.  The concept of my work is to play around with this notion by taking familiar objects and painting them in a new or strange context.  The only hint as to what my pieces actually portray is seen in the title of each work.  By presenting the objects in a strange way, I want to leave the viewer baffled by what they are looking at, to the point where they are almost uneased.  The pieces I contributed fit the theme of the exhibition in that they are scenes from my day-to-day life that intrigued me, therefore, they are reflections of my reality.  For example, my piece, Entrance Door is, as the title suggests, a painting of my front door.  For this piece, I was drawn to the architecture in the window frame and wanted to translate it into a painting.  In my other piece, Vases, I painted a close up of the antiques in my house, as I wanted to challenge myself to recreate the textures and light changes seen in the glassware.
