In this day and age, people rely on technology for everything. Cellphones are so easily accessible that virtually everyone owns one. But with these devices constantly at our disposal, it is easy to get so immersed in the virtual world that we completely ignore our surroundings. Every day, technology is getting more and more advanced, which means that this issue of ignoring our surroundings is only going to get worse.
In the first image, I depicted a situation that is all too common. A group of friends are hanging out, but are not actually talking to each other, because they are all on their cell phones. Technology helps us connect with people, like through calling, texting, and social media, but it just as easily helps us ignore everyone around us.
The second image exaggerates the danger that constant cellphone usage is actually causing us. Although this exact situation is unlikely to happen, ignoring our surroundings to look at our phones can do a lot of damage. Walking or driving without paying attention to where we are going happens very often.
The last GIF shows where I imagine technology will go in the future. Virtual reality technology is a topic I hear discussed almost daily, and it is becoming more and more realistic. We already have augmented reality available on our phones, like with Snapchat filters, but I predict that virtual reality headsets will start becoming more popular. We will be able to walk through a bad neighborhood while wearing a virtual reality headset, and be shown images that are much nicer than our surroundings. People may start going about their everyday lives wearing a headset, and eventually, it will become the normal way of living all around the globe. If this ever happens, it means that technology has made reality completely obsolete.
