For the final project, I will combine two projects what I did during this semester. My narrative series ‘If I can fly’ in the introductory photography class, my body is floating in the air to reflect the imagination to the ordinary photographs. This series gives a sense of humor to the audience and I also enjoyed the process of creating these digital images.
For the ARS 420 (Studio Art Seminar), I prepared the photography exhibition with one of my classmate. I did self-portrait series ‘My apples’. In this series, I overlapped two negative films and printed to create one image. Each work is made of two negatives; the first one is a self-portrait of myself and the second one is still-life photographs of the apples. Red apples represent who I am as a person. In my mother’s dream while she was pregnant my grandfather handed over countless red apples to my mother. Having conception dream of red apples symbolizes the birth of a baby girl in Korean culture. The combination of the two transparent images implies my external (physical appearance) and internal characteristics.
In the critique of the duo exhibition, I got a feedback that it might be better if the apples have the red color to enact my mother’s dream. For this reason, I would like to blend the concepts of two series; ‘If I can fly’ and ‘My apples’. The final series will be the composite images with mirage feature of the apples and myself with fanciful atmosphere.
