SoMAS faculty and students appeared in a television feature which aired last night on the nationally broadcast NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. The report on “green majors” for undergraduate students interested in environmental issues featured Stony Brook Southampton and the Arizona State University School of Sustainability.

The piece, reported by chief environmental affairs correspondent Anne Thompson, was part of NBC Nightly News’ Our Planet series, which regularly highlights issues affecting our environment.

For the two and a half minute feature, SoMAS’ Mary Scranton, Chris Gobler, and Rob DiGiovanni helped the NBC news crew collect many hours of footage at the Stony Brook Southampton Marine Station.

“The obvious highlighting of marine programs within SBS will help us attract marine-oriented students to the campus,” said David Conover, Dean and Director of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. “That’s win-win for all concerned.”
