Research will assess and improve cloud simulations in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model using novel radar and satellite-based observations developed by group members. Simulations will be run on the New York Blue supercomputer, which is a 100-teraflop IBM Blue Gene/L massively parallel supercomputer (http://www.bnl.gov/newyorkblue/) that is jointly operated by BNL and Stony Brook University (SBU). Research will be conducted in collaboration with Prof. Minghua Zhang (SBU), and the successful candidate will also have an opportunity to interact scientifically with a number of other researchers associated with the BNL Climate Consortium, a multi-institutional team to improve fast physics in climate models, and with NY Blue Climate Science, a collaborative effort between BNL and SBU to understand the chemical, atmospheric and oceanic processes that effect weather and climate (https://wiki.bnl.gov/bg_climate_science/index.php/Main_Page).

The position requires a PhD in atmospheric sciences or related field, and experience with regional or global-scale modeling. Experience with WRF is preferred, but experience with other mesoscale models or the NCAR Community Atmosphere Model is acceptable.
