The NASA Living with a Star program, hosted by the UCAR Visiting Scientist Program is inviting applications for the 2010 Heliophysics Summer School to be held in Boulder, CO. The summer school has two principal aims: to deepen the appreciation of the basic science of heliophysics for a select group of students as teachers take the them through highly interactive seminars and hands-on working groups, and 2, expand the newly published textbook series to include labs, problem sets and background material from which heliophysics may be taught at universities worldwide. The 2010 program will focus on teaching graduate level students and first year postdoctoral fellows the fundamentals of heliophysics along with the cause an effect of space storms. Faculty News On February 9, Professor Minghua Zhang will travel to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, to attend the joint meeting of the Atmospheric Model Working Group (AMWG) and the Chemistry Climate Working Group (CCWG) of the Community Earth System Model. He is co-chair of the AMWG, and the purpose of this meeting is to determine the configuration of the atmospheric model for the next IPCC assessment. It will be called the Community Atmospheric Model Version 4 (CAM4). ITPA would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Post-Doctoral Associate, Jian Li, from the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. Jian’s office is located in Endeavour 205.
