Professor Dong-Ping Wang has announced his retirement, effective this summer. This represents the end of an era in the development of MSRC/SoMAS and we wish to find an enjoyable way to celebrate and honor the many outstanding contributions Dong Ping has made to the fields of physical oceanography and numerical modeling over many years at Stony Brook.
We know that many of you will want to join us in a celebration of Dong Ping’s long and distinguished career. So we are devoting a day for former students and colleagues to join with us, centered around informal seminars (DP wanted especially for former students – not just his – to present), followed by a School afternoon reception and finishing with dinner at a local restaurant.
The date for the celebration is Friday 15 June, commencing at 9:15 am and continuing through the afternoon and early evening.
The program at present:
9:15: Registration and coffee
9:30 – 12:00: Brief research reports (AGU-type 12+3 minutes) by former students (and not necessarily just those of Dong-Ping’s).
12:00 – 1:30: Catered lunch in Endeavour Hall
1:30 – 4:00 Brief research reports (continued)
4:00 – 5:00. School reception and social hour with SoMAS faculty, staff and students.
6:30 – 8:30. Dutch treat dinner and tributes at a pleasant local restaurant.
For those of you who will be traveling a considerable distance, we can help direct you to local hotels where you can make your own bookings. For those who arrive on Thursday afternoon or evening, we will arrange a happy hour at a local restaurant.
