From Long Island Press Power List Celebrating the most influential Long Islanders
Once a year, the Long Island Press identifies and ranks the 50 most influential people on Long Island, also known as their “Power List”. Individuals are honored for having demonstrated real, tangible influence over Long Islander’s thoughts or actions. For the 2015, list Stony Brook University’s Professor of Marine Science, Christopher Gobler, was listed as #40 on The Power List.
According to the Press, “Gobler has dedicated his life to researching and investigating the functioning of Long Island’s aquatic ecosystems and their relationships to humans and climate change. His work is on the frontlines of the battle to interpret and prevent harmful algal blooms and help solve Long Island’s disastrous toxic nitrogen dilemma,
which has decimated local bays and waterways and resulted in the suffocation of hundreds of thousands of fish, turtles, and various other marine life. His power resides in his perseverance and dedication to studying these issues and perhaps one day remedying them, as well as his work’s undeniable influence. Long Island’s future is a lot greener, and healthier, with Gobler.”
At the awards ceremony, Gobler inducted Stony Brook University President, Samuel Stanley into the Power List Hall of Fame, an honor for making the Power List on five occasions.
