SoMAS Faculty and staff were among the honorees at the Fall University Awards Dinner where they were recognized for their hard work and dedicated service by Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Charles Taber.  Congratulations to them all!

Yadira Fernandez received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service.  Yadira creates the very pleasant environment of Discovery Hall and at times our other SoMAS buildings on South Campus. She leaves a positive impression on anything she touches.  We are lucky to have her as part of the SoMAS team.
Ginny Clancy was honored with the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service. Ginny’s recognition was for the outstanding job that she did with the Sustainability Studies Program.  While there, the program grew from 70 to more than 300 students.  In many ways, Ginny served as the face of Sustainability Studies to our Undergraduate students.
Anne McElroy, representing a group of SoMAS female faculty, was recognized for having received one of the prestigious Presidential Mini-Grants.   The team’s grant was entitled WINGs: Women in Geosciences-Nurturing Opportunities, Effectiveness, Satisfaction, and Leadership.  The effort is to encourage women to engage and be successful in STEM careers.  Other members of the team included Jackie Collier, Nolwenn Dheily, Hyemi Kim, Janet Nye, Leslie Thorne, and Laura Wehrmann.  The project will include hosting a series of visiting speakers and panel discussions aimed at promoting participation and retention of women in Geosciences.  WINGs also hopes to engage many male students and faculty in the discussion to support professional development and work/life balance among us all.
