SoMAS is excited to welcome Sara Hamideh as a new Assistant Professor starting in Fall 2019. Dr. Hamideh comes to Stony Brook from Iowa State University where she was previously an Assistant Professor of Community and Regional Planning since 2015.

Dr. Hamideh’s research focuses on coastal mitigation and recovery resources and policies, housing recovery, and dynamics of social vulnerability. She will contribute to our efforts to further develop interdisciplinary research in coastal resilience and will teach courses for the Environmental Design, Planning, and Policy major. Dr. Hamideh holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Sciences from Texas A&M University, an M.A. in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Tehran (Iran), a B.A. in Urban Planning from Mazandaran University (Iran), and has also worked in the private sector as an urban planner.
