Are you up for the challenge? You have three weeks to find 10 beloved plants of the park and document your find in iNaturalist! Visit the Friends of Ashley Schiff website for plant list and instructions. Winners get a t-shirt!

Wednesday, October 2, 1:00pm. Forest Spirit Procession
Wang Center Steps.
Join us on a journey to and through the forest! Donned in wearable sculpture inspired by the spirit of the forest and accompanied by musicians, students and enthusiasts will proceed from the steps of the Wang Center to the trail head of Stony Brook University’s own park. Sharon Pochron, President of the Friends of Ashley Schiff Park Preserve, will guide the group through the forest, bringing attention to the botanical and geological wonders that await there.

Friday, October 4, 12:00pm. Guided Tour of the Woods.
Ashley Schiff Park Preserve Kiosk.
Join botanist and naturalist Sue Avery as she leads us through the woods, highlighting the unique ecosystem, geology, and history. The Ashley Schiff Park Preserve kiosk is located on Circle Drive, opposite of Lake Drive, on Stony Brook University’s main campus.

Charles B. Wang Center, Theater Lobby.
Keynote Speaker Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn. We’ll also hear from Dorothy Schiff, Erik Callender of Erik’s Edventures, University Senate Environment Committee Chair and SoMAS Instrument Engineer Tom Wilson, SoMAS poet David Taylor, and the office of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. It’s free and open to the public. Please register for this event!
