Dr. Charles Flagg has continued his flights over the Breach at Old Inlet on Fire Island during quarantine. The last mosaic image was created back in January. Dr. Flagg has been using two different aircraft for the flights. The images that were taken from a much higher altitude were taken from a glider. The higher altitude was necessary to make sure the glider could return back to the airport, but the photos tend to capture the entire breach in a single frame.
Dr, Flagg conducted flights on February 15, April 30, May 7, June 14 and July 14, 2020. Images from the flights are available below.
The geo-referenced photo mosaics up to January 2020 have been assembled by Mark Lang into a kml file that can be viewed using Google Earth. By clicking between images and using the fade in-out button you can clearly see how the inlet is changing with time. An offline version of the KML file is available as KMZ.
