This semester, the Stony Brook Meteorology Club launched a “Fun Fact Fridays” video series on their Instagram Channel to promote their love of atmospheric science. In total, there were eight episodes, each covering a different aspect of atmospheric science.

In the first episode, P.R officer Austin Reed explained the very basics of vertical motion in the atmosphere and atmospheric stability! The second episode featured Deshaun Robinson, where he explained the Sea Breeze Front phenomena. Club member Marlon Quinteros explained the science and meaning behind the Hypsometric Equation in the third episode. Kevin Rodriguez gave a quick rundown of cloud condensation nuclei in the fourth episode. The fifth episode featured meteorology club treasurer Julia Tetrault, where she explained the basics behind precipitation formation in the atmosphere. James Bowen explained how tornadoes function in the sixth episode, and why they are so dangerous. The seventh episode provided a top ten list of fun facts regarding the naming of hurricanes and tropical storms from Skye Harman. As a coastal front passed through the area (and our local news forecasts), Club President Darlene Ditell took a deeper dive into this phenomena for the eighth and final episode.
