I am a Long Island native and grew up loving the beaches of Long Island. I graduated May of 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Coastal Environmental Studies and minored in Marine Science from Stony Brook University. In my studies I focused mainly on Long Island’s waste water management techniques for both Nassau and Suffolk County and restoration techniques for polluted and eroded shorelines. I had also used my knowledge of STELLA systems and modeling software to model the predation on the world’s largest population of dugons by tiger sharks in Shark Bay Australia. In the MCP program I am currently furthering my knowledge that will enable me to move forward in a career where I will be able to affect public opinion and governmental decisions through the use of scientific data and research. I am also extending my knowledge from STELLA modeling software to include GIS and Remote Sensing software. As my capstone project I am working with Dr. Henry Bokuniewicz to better understand sediment movement along Long Island’s South Shore through a collection of observational data. With the knowledge and experience that I gain at Stony Brook University I hope to move into a career that will allow me to have a meaningful effect on coastal zone management decisions.
