STONY BROOK, N.Y., April 2, 2008— EarthStock 2008, Stony Brook University’s fifth annual celebration of Earth Day, will culminate with a free, day-long festival complete with a great lineup of musical acts and entertainment as well as food, refreshments and educational booths and displays, on Friday April 18th starting at 10 a.m. on the Stony Brook University Academic Mall.

More than 100 campus and off-campus environmental organizations will participate in the day-long festivities, which also includes vendors displaying a variety of organic products and a performance by the Stony Brook Marching Band. In addition, Stony Brook President Shirley Strum Kenny will deliver opening remarks and members of the University community will recite the “Green Pledge,” marking an enduring commitment to reduce their environmental footprint.

Musical acts include The Gyst, one of the tri-state area’s hottest cover bands, as well as Peat Moss and the Fertilizers, one of the most animated, fun loving and talented group of performers on the circuit today. There will also be a fundraising Rubber Duck Race down “Stony Brook.”

The theme for EarthStock 2008, which kicks off April 14 and also includes a series of lectures and educational forums, is “Sustainability: The Future is Now.” Furthermore, Stony Brook Southampton, a new and renewable campus whose curricula focuses on the environment and issues of sustainability will be participating for the first time, hosting a two-day symposium and a renewable rock concert.

With Keynote Speaker Hans-Peter Plag, and moderated by Howard Schneider, Dean of the School of Journalism. In Wang Center, Lecture Hall 2 at 3:30 pm.
