The next Topics in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (TAOS) seminar will take place onWednesday, November 20, at 12:00 noon in Endeavour Hall 120. Professor Alan Condron from the Department of Geosciences at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst,  will present a seminar entitled, “Impact of Polar Mesoscale Storms on Atlantic Ocean Circulation.” Light refreshments will be served. This week’s Oceans and Atmosphere Colloquium will take place on Friday, November 22, at 12:00 noon in Endeavour Hall 120. Message from Professor Anne McElroy:  Second-year students and beyond in the M.S. and Ph.D. programs are asked to email Anne.McElroy@stonybrook.edu to request a TA assignment if your advisor is unable to provide support for the Spring 2014 semester. TA assignments are available only to students in good standing, and should only be requested if there is no other means of support. Deadline is November 25.

The SoMAS Graduate Student Club will be taking orders for SoMAS hoodies in the near future.  Please email somasgradclub@gmail.com to vote for either the full-zipper hoodie or the half-zipper pullover hoodie.  Details regarding ordering will be available in a future newsletter.

The UUP Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP) forms are now available athttp://www.uupsbu.org.  This program allows UUP employees to exchange previously accrued annual leave in return for a credit to be applied toward the employee share of NYSHIP premiums.  Deadline for enrollment is November 29.

The deadline is quickly approaching for the purchase of holiday party tickets. This year’s SoMAS holiday party will take place on Wednesday, December 18, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Flowerfield in St. James.  Ticket prices are as follows: $25 students, $30 staff, and $35 faculty.  Tickets must be purchased by Monday, December 9.
