Karim, S.O., & Ticcony, K. (Eds.). (2023). Forever Wild.
A compilation of student works about nature, environmental justice, sustainability, & more celebrating the Ashley Schiff Preserve.
Collected in Advocacy for the Ashley Schiff Preserve, to keep it forever wild.
Forever Wild is a collection of various poems, drawings, art, and other forms of art and activism which aims to be an ambitious and collaborative project celebrating the importance of nature, the environment, and the Ashley Schiff Preserve located in Stony Brook University. A composition of work all calling to action to work towards promoting environmental justice and the preservation of nature.
The 26-acre nature preserve was dedicated in the memory of political science Professor Ashley Schiff (1932-1969); he was a naturalist and an expert in forest management policy. After his death, the land was dedicated in his memory, and also serves as a ‘living lab’ for many students and professors at the university.
As of 2023, the Ashley Schiff Preserve has yet to gain any legal protection. The various works created by Stony Brook Students in unity for environmental conservation and continued efforts are in hopes of continued advocacy for the protection of the preserve, and to keep it Forever Wild.
