Khimasia, A., Renshaw, C., Price, R. E., & Pichler, T. (2021). Hydrothermal flux and porewater geochemistry in Paleochori Bay, Milos, Greece. Chemical Geology, 120188.
Dr. Roy Price and colleagues have just published “Hydrothermal flux and porewater geochemistry in Paleochori Bay, Milos, Greece“, which describes the first ever comprehensive evaluation of hydrothermal fluid fluxes from a sedimented submarine hydrothermal system. More than 150 pore fluid samples were taken, and geo-referencing using drone images allowed us to map fluid fluxes across the Bay. Fluid flux from the hydrothermal areas was determined to be 11,300 ± 1100 m3/day. This value allowed us to further calculate an annual Arsenic input of approximately 1.5 × 10^4 kg into the Mediterranean Sea.
