Positive Emphasis

Positive Emphasis

It’s very important to keep in mind the audience that is reading whatever you write something down these days, whether it be for work or just an email between friends or colleagues, it’s crucial to be positive in your writing to portray the proper message without anything getting taken out of context.  There are specific words to stay away from that can give off a negative vibe.

It’s easy to try and explain something and not even realize that we are using negative words.  There are methods that can eliminate these words and make your writing sound much more positive.  The structure of the sentence has a lot to do with power as well.  Positive writing does have a degree of power behind it that makes it able to come across as somewhat heroic.  For example, let say I am writing a piece or article about college life that I know college students are going to eventually read.  There must be a part of me that uses positive emphasis in order convey the proper feeling I had when going to college and all the things that I obtained from college.  This gives me power over the reader to help them interpret what I am writing in a positive way and not feel overwhelmed, stressed, or worried about their future college life.

Sometimes you must completely omit a sentence just because it sounds too negative.  Another thing to avoid is making your writing sound to fluffy.  Filling it with random words that sound positive is not a good idea.  It’s better to just try and put your personality into the writing to give the feeling of positive vibes.  It crucial that if there is negative writing that does have to take place, such as stating a recall or apologizing, it’s better to be very brief, and surround it with positive emphasis as to drown out the negatives.

For example, let’s say I’m telling my friend about a dog I just adopted.  Now everyone knows that puppies go to the bathroom constantly and it’s a battle to keep everything clean.  A way I could write it with using positive emphasis would be to point out that puppies are cute and that it takes love and dedication to help the puppy grow into a beautiful mature dog.  This is all hypothetical but it does resonate with what positive emphasis is.
