Airtravel

Either JFK or LaGuardia are connected to Stony Brook via public transit; the LaGuardia connection involves a bus (LaGuardia Link Q70) and a train, while JFK is by train. Both are roughly the same distance to campus. The trip takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Train

The Stony Brook stop is on the Port Jefferson line of the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). From the stop, it is a short 10-15 minute walk to the Wang Center, where the conference will be held. The regional train from the airport takes approximately 1.5 hours, while from Manhattan or Brooklyn to Stony Brook is approximately two hours and costs approx $15 each way. The train to Stony Brook departs/arrives from either Penn Station or Grand Central, but connections are also available from Atlantic Terminal Brooklyn or Queens in New York City. Amtrak connections are through Penn Station. The commute from the city to the campus on the same day is absolutely doable (as many students and instructors do), but please take into consideration the time to get to campus and to come back to the city. Trains are only available roughly every hour and half and train schedules change, so check in close to when you want to travel on the website of the Long Island Rail Road 

 

Accommodation

Hilton Garden Inn Stony Brook. This hotel is on campus, it is the closest option to the conference. When making a reservation, please call (631) 941-2980 and request the Stony Brook Visitor Rate. Each room offers a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and complimentary wireless.  The hotel offers complimentary shuttle transportation from the Stony Brook train station, Port Jefferson and Stony Brook Villages, and the Smith Haven Mall.

Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook. The Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook is located less than 2 miles from Stony Brook University Campus. The hotel offers free shuttle service to and from Stony Brook University, Stony Brook Hospital and Stony Brook Train Station. Rate includes, free hot breakfast buffet and free wireless internet. Three Village Inn. A picturesque hotel in Stony Brook village, it is 2.7 miles/10 minute drive (Uber/Lyft) from campus. 

Danfords. A picturesque hotel in the town of Port Jefferson. It is 4.6 miles/approx 15 minute drive (Uber/Lyft) from campus.
