Privileged to watch and participate in the implementation of full treatment plans for multiple patients including:
- Radiation Oncology
- Simulation development of patient treatment
- Implementation of CT and dose simulation of the linear accelerator
- Comparison of simulation with real world data
- Physical scanning of patient, referencing simulation to ensure all scans line up
- Treatment of patient
- Medical Physics
- Observation of
- Calibration of CT scanners, contour scans, and linear accelerators
- Preparation of medical treatment plans
- Stereotactic body radiation therapy
- Creation of radiation phantom simulations
- Varian engineers who repaired and recalibrated the linear accelerator and CT Scanner
- Power cycling of linear accelerator
- Participation in monthly Quality Assurance:
- Measuring radiation depth
- Measuring radiation dosage
- Measuring gantry angle and isocenter aberrations
- Scanning of density models with and without solid water
- Comparing density models to standard values
- Testing of lasers for topographic patient positioning systems
- Measuring electron and photon beam radiation deposits
- Observation of
- Medical Oncology:
- Explanation of the principles and application of radiation oncology
- Able to evaluate needs of patients and respond with appropriate care
- Recognition of policies and procedures to protect patient safety
