Brittney Scannell (Ph.D. Student) – I am interested in habitat utilization, connectivity, and movement of fish in nearshore systems; specifically on artificial reefs.  For my Ph.D. work, I use acoustic telemetry to examine questions about how local species including sharks, rays, and fish use the system of offshore artificial reefs put in place by the NYDEC. In addition, I am completing an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Data and Computational Science to integrate Bayesian modeling into my analysis.

I graduated from Stony Brook University with a BS in Coastal Environmental Studies in May 2018.  I actually began my work in the Peterson lab in 2017 as an undergraduate research volunteer! I’m originally from Long Island, NY, and enjoy all outside activities including hiking, biking, running, swimming and climbing.
