FLYNN DeLANY (HE/HIM)

Flynn DeLany (M.S. Student) – I am interested in developing methods to better restore degraded coastal landscapes, focusing on community function in the restored ecosystems. My thesis work with Dr. Peterson strives to increase eelgrass (Zostera marina) transplantation success through the development of landscape heterogeneity with nearby artificial eastern oyster reefs.

I began my work with the Peterson Lab as an undergraduate volunteer in 2018, eventually completing an undergraduate honors thesis on the spatial extent of a novel eelgrass seed pathogen in Long Island’s estuaries while graduating with a B.S. in Marine Science in 2020 from Stony Brook University.

Outside of my time spent under the sun for science, I enjoy rock climbing in the warmer months, skiing in the coldest of times, and getting any chance to get out in the world!
