This is a prototype of what the website will become in the next couple of months! Here’s our vision:
In 2006, medical students Dennis Daniel and Benjamin Yam, spent their summer dissecting and taking pictures of important anatomical structures to create the website we still know as “the body online.” Since then, around 1000 incoming SBU Med medical students have made use of the site at one point or another while taking anatomy. However, the site has not been updated since and should this not happen, it will become obsolete in the next couple of years. The aim of this project is to completely revamp all aspects of the website to guarantee its continuous existence as an additional educational resource not just to SBU Med students but the rest of the HSC community. We will be exploiting advances in technology that were not available at the time such as relevant clinical sidelight videos from reputable sources via youtube, an exponential improvement in the digital quality of the cadaver images, and an aesthetically updated user interface for the website. Currently, we are ready to start the dissection and photography stage that will go throughout the Spring. The editing and website preparation stage will take place during the summer to have a launch date of August 2015, just in time for the incoming C/O 2019 to use.
